What is ECU programming and why is it important?

ECU (Engine Control Unit) programming ensures your towbar is fully integrated with your vehicle’s systems. This allows features such as:

  • Trailer stability control
  • Parking sensor adjustments
  • Brake and lighting synchronisation

Without proper programming, your towing system may not function safely or correctly.

General

Does my Towbar come with Wiring?

Your Towbar that you purchase on our site will only come with wiring if EXPLICITLY SHOWN IN THE PRODUCT TITLE, usually in the form of a Towbar kit or bundle. You will notice a price change on towbars/kits that come with and without wiring.

What is a Euro bar?

A Euro bar is a vertically detachable towbar that is completely invisible
underneath the bumper bar when hitch is not needed/in use. These towbars are
extremely popular for users that dont want a visible towbar to alter the look
of their vehicle, or do not tow very often.

What does Class 4 and Class 3 Mean with a towbar?

When you see a Class classification on a product listing it refers to the capability of the towbar in question. Class 4 will refer to your Heavy Duty towbars that MAXIMISE the absolute towing capacity of the vehicle in
question, whereas Class 3 towbars will not. Class 3 towbars will usually do a
fraction of the cars capacity but can be more beneficial to users that dont tow
very heavy.

Another major difference is that Class 4 towbars will come with a 50mm square hitch for the tongue, meaning there is also a very beneficial use for many accessories such as bike racks. Class 3 towbars will typically have a bolt on tongue with no square hitch.

Should I use Universal Wiring or a Direct Fit Plug & Play Harness?

Universal Wiring and Direct Fit Wiring are two very different methods. Whilst they both provide power through a 7 Pin plug at the rear of the vehicle, they come at different price points and operate very differently.

A Universal Harness is installed through the Splicing at the Rear of the car through the tailights, being a completely aftermarket option, the risk of electrical faults can occur if not fitted by a professional. Through this method you also will have no access to any pre-existing towing functions that your car may have, depending on manufacturer.

A Direct Fit Plug & Play Harness is a more expensive, but more practical solution to wiring your vehicle. The direct fit harness enables a literal 'Plug & play' service through existing ports in your car to give you an OE experience and fully enable the factory towing features. These features vary by vehicle manufacturer but the most popular is automatic ovveride of rear parking sensors.
